Peer reviewed research suggests that homophobic men tend to be sexually attracted to gay porn. - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/8772014/—
my personal research indicates that everybody should be attracted to gay porn.
Make note that this is a 1996 study with a sample size of only 64 volunteers. And, with many studies, it should not be treated as “fact”. A study can only suggest correlation. It can suggest a strong correlation (i.e. smoking and multiple health issues) but it can’t definitively prove anything. Human sexuality is enormously complex and one study this small and this limited cannot tell you much once you take a sec to get acquainted with it.
The study itself stresses the importance of further research being needed as well as admitting that the questionnaire it uses to measure aggression has its own flaws that make it a loose fit in measuring this particular type of focused aggressive response.
Future research should focus on several issues. First, more reliable scales for measuring homophobia should be devised that incorporate cognitive, affective, and behavioral components. Second, the issue of whether homophobic individuals meet the definitional criteria for simple phobia should be investigated by determining whether these individuals experience anxiety or avoidance when confronted with homosexual cues. Third, the issue of whether homophobia is specific to men or may also occur in women has not been addressed systematically, nor is it clear whether homophobic women may show sexual arousal to erotic lesbian stimuli. Fourth, it has been claimed that homophobic individuals have poor heterosexual adjustment, and this issue should be documented. With answers to these and similar issues, a clearer understanding of the nature of homophobia will be possible.
The full study, since it’s over 10 years old, can be found and browsed for your own enjoyment. To support the conclusion that’s trying to be drawn here, we need more data.
Buyer beware with “fact” and “did-you-know” tumblrs, dudes. They’re less about fact and more about truthiness. Sounds true and what is consistently true enough to be noted as fact are not the same.
Citing a study can’t turn a truthy statement into fact if the study isn’t any good. Be careful not to discredit yourself or your cause.
Very interesting indeed
